Disc Golf Club Monthly Meeting. 11/5/2012 Present: Greg Alpert, Brianna Anderson-Greg, Craig Banner, Bob Burton, Kelly Christianson, Ron Downey, Bryce Downey, Billy Gaskill, Mike Gibson, Greg Johnson, Bear Judge, President Everett Kaser (Presiding), Dave Pittman, John Ross, Jay Sexton, Nate Sexton, Shavonne Shumacher, Doug Ulfers, Erik Graciosa, Conner Smith, Sherry and Jim Dubay. TREASURER'S REPORT (Greg): Current status $4620 are in the club account (but disc inventory is getting low). FESTIVUS (Greg): Will be Jan 26th. It will be a 22 hole course. Food will be done as a potluck as before. ADAIR GREENSKEEPER (Nate): A fallen arch on walk-out of 11 will be modified to make it less of a head knocker. Billie Gaskill has volunteered. Next thing on the work list is the concrete tees. ADAIR DOUBLES (Mike/Craig): Still going. Not getting a very big turnout right now. Last Sunday of month was offered as possible opportunity for different manager. Billie Gaskill expressed interest. He would need a partner, as he isn’t always free. Craig reported that $66 in Mulligan money was turned in to club this month. WILLAMETTE GREENSKEEPER (Greg Alpert): Abe Downey is prepared to do the tee signs at cost, (about $2500) but on the table is a large expansion of the course which John Ross and Greg have walked through with City Parks. This would argue for waiting on tee signs until we have settled priorities question of whether we are going to attempt to make major revisions and expansions of the course. The signs envisioned are sturdy thick machined aluminum with machine-etched lettering and images, powder-coated, with a hanger at the bottom for bags. These signs would have space at the bottom for a sponsor’s message, which would be rented on an annual basis. Discussion ensued about a stop-gap use of new temporary signage. John Ross presented broad strokes of his vision of an enhanced Willamette Course, with more holes and more challenging holes. This might utilize land of the Park that is underutilized including the Kendall Farms property north of the course. Opinions were expressed that such a plan would meet opposition from neighbors, and could be in conflict with the City sanctioned plans for certain areas of the Park. Memories of the original struggle in the City Council were shared: Jay speculated that Parks and Rec might be ready to manage the disc golf course free from the City Council. Several persons spoke of the tactic of getting a coherent plan and proposal that would be run thru our consensus process before presenting it to the Parks and Rec people. Everett spoke of the need to focus on what are first priorities are. Developing another course is seen in conflict with a big redo of Willamette Park both of which will require major investments of club member’s time and energy. Motion to Defer decisions on Redo of Willamette Park was passed. This was explained as an attempt to garner more specific plans, lay-out maps, and to evaluate the club vote on Priorities. Question of whether we are willing to spend $2500 on the tee signs led to more discussion of priorities. Vote passed on motion to ask Greg Alpert to further flesh out the pay-back possibilities for first year advertising which is supposed to be available to Club to defray cost of the signs. Motion to bring up the signage next month knowing the cost that will be involved passed. [Greg Alpert reported the following day that Parks & Rec says, yes, we can keep the dollars for the sign sponsorships the first year, starting at $100 per hole, which would bring in $1800 to offset the costs of the signs.] HOPE OPEN: (Shavonne): 80 people showed up raised $2800 for Breast Cancer, which was slightly lower than last year, but very good considering the weather which was quite rainy all weekend. 12 teams played doubles the next day. DISC TZAR (Dave): Last order came in last month. 19 discs were left after the Hope open and ten of these have sold, so 9 are for sale. 100 discs bought, 80 sold. Inventory is 295 discs, which is low. Next order will be before Festivus. PRESIDENT'S CUP (Everett): Will be Sat Dec 8th, at Adair, “for Safari Golf”. Everett will post a map of the special course. Club membership will be required. Paying the extra $10 for membership, required for playing, will cover 2013 dues. PROPOSAL FOR CHANGE TO BY-LAWS: Currently Greenskeepers speak with Parks departments as our sole contact person, but President's duties also include speaking with government officials. New language would specify that President of Club may work with a Greeenskeeper on issues related to a particular course, but the Greenskeeper would remain the sole contact with Parks on specific course issues. Motion to table this to allow consideration of specific language, etc, to next meeting passed. ELECTION OF 2013 PRESIDENT: John Ross and Jay Sexton have put their names in the hat. Motion made to defer election to next month resulted in tie vote 6:6, and President made the decision to defer. 2013 PRIORITIES: (Everett) A ballot comprised of a compilation of proposed priorities was passed out (and posted on-line on the Yahoo group). Ballots must be filed with President with deadline of 1 week (midnight, November 12th). Results will be posted to the Yahoo group on the 13th and reported at the December meeting. These priorities will help shape the discussion on reworking Willamette, Willamette signage and a new course. NOTE: Next month’s meeting will begin at 6 PM Respectfully submitted, Bob Burton, secy.
