Willamette Disc Golf Club Monthly Meeting. Monday, 3/5/2012 Present: Greg Alpert, Brianna Anderson-Greg, Craig Banner, Bob Burton, Kelly Christianson, Sean Delohery, Bryce Downey, Mike Gibson, Greg Johnson, Bear Judge, Everett Kaser (Presiding), Allyson Lickman, Dave Pittman, Nate Sexton, Eric Smith, Jesse Lamb, Jon Lebsack, Connor Smith. Treasurer’s Report (Greg) current status of checking account: 3800 dollars; he adds that this is enough for the signs at Willamette and new tee pads for Adair. Willamette Open (Nate) Nate reminds us that he is requiring someone to do the player’s conferences and Greg volunteers. Everett Kaser, Roy Albert and Mike Key had already volunteered at the February meeting to help with the day-of running of the tournament.  Until the flights are laid out, however, it's hard to tell whether (even with the addition of Greg Johnson) whether that will be enough people to cover both courses or whether we'll still need more volunteers. We may need someone to do the other tournament site player meeting. Nate intends to do all reporting and filing with PDGA. Disc Sales (Dave) Blizzard Champion discs are in. The Mamba is a new disc in which is the “flippiest fast disc”. (Also champion king cobra is coming, from an old mold) Adair (Nate) The trees have been removed on 7. The leaner on 9 needs to go and is expected to be cut down soon as it is dangerous and adds nothing. On 6 there is a broken cherry tree 40 feet short of basket that could be removed, but sentiment was to see if it will survive. There is a walk-thru planned with the Parks people with multiple proposals to be made to them (including more par 4 holes, concrete tees, path improvement, more stairs, longer berm position at 5, basket position in log on 3, basket on stump beyond 12,) The proposed new short position on 4 was argued back and forth, with some feeling it was dull. A par 4 position to left of current left position on 8 was also proposed. A second practice basket 35 feet from the first would be nice and we’ll try to get that too. WDGC Invitational (Greg Johnson) Apr 28th. Greg is cleaning up fairways at his Blodgett Course. There will be a Blodgett work party and practice opportunity, date in April TBD, consisting of 1) Hole 3 trail work, 2) Building more stairs on short holes 15/16, 3) Some teepad leveling and matt installations. As was the mode last year, one of two rounds will be one disc only (with an identical spare for use in event of lost disc) and there will be a separate mini round the same day. Willamette Park (Greg Alpert). A new design by Abe Downey for tee signage for the park has been done and his expert work doing the construction of the metal signs generously offered. The tee signs will be powder coated, and will have distance info about the hole. They will be made of ¼ inch steel plate. They will be tentatively be ready by end of May. We would furnish concrete, 4x4s, bolts etc. It would cost us around 500 dollars for the costs Abe incur. The City wants to have the ability to attach little sponsor ads on the tee signs. Re-measuring hole distances for Abe was suggested and Nate volunteered to do this. Greg has gotten 14 yards of bark chips donated and spread to hole 1 tee and hole 18. Greg has plans to have Fraternity help next Saturday to spread chips or gravel. He also has ordered trees and shrubs to fill in where trees have gone down on hole 1. Plans are to increase options by installing a second tee pad on #2 for a longer hole when the soil is drier so a readi-mix truck can get in. Holes 15 and 13 need new tabs and we are likely to get this done soon when Jay Sexton retires. President’s Report: (Everett) The City of Adair Village is going to put in a new storm sewer line which will run through the woods from the drain at the “aerodrome” in an uncertain route to the sewage treatment plant that will disrupt some of the woods holes. At present Adair Village lacks the liquidity to pursue this however. Parks is reputedly ready to let us have concrete tees, and maybe some other things as they begin to see the staying power of the “disc golf craze”. Mike Gibson notes that Corvallis Parks is doing a survey on park development priorities. This is an opportunity to be heard on the subject of prioritizing disc golf in the parks. Take the open survey online: www.ci.corvallis.or.us/pr. Direct Email Announcements: Bob Burton volunteered to do direct emailing of announcements of work-parties, tournaments, and club minutes. This would involve the submission to him of copy ready for distribution without editing by those in charge, i.e. greenskeepers, T.D.s or the takers of WDGC minutes. Bob would keep an email address list of club members and friends of the WDGC who wish to receive such information, and pass it on . Any questions or needed clarifications would go to the originator of the announcement directly. The function would solely be to distribute announcements promptly. OSU Club- V.P Sean Delohery introduced himself and talked about his fundraiser discs to help raise club funds. The club hopes to take a team to the National Collegiate Tournament back east. He also answered a question from last month stating that he has laid out a conceptual target course on campus with a map available at OSU Beavers Facebook Page NOTE: next month’s meeting will begin at 7 PM Respectfully submitted, Bob Burton, secy.
