Attendance: Greg Johnson, Dave Pittman, Everett Kaser, Jay Sexton, Jim Dubay, James Hooper, Mike Gibson, Kelly Christiansen, Mike Storrs, Laura and Mark Martin, Ted Harbaugh, Richard Raymond, Casey Lohrman, Eric Smith, Mike Patrick, Josh Kirby from OSU. Treasurer: We have approximately $2,500 in bank after payment of Festivus discs to Innova. Club Invitational: (Mr. Johnson) See his e-mail or a flyer he circulates. The course is in pretty good shape and a work party is set for March 6 for workparty. A limited amount of chainsaw work left. Not too critical. People can play tone poles. There will be a one disc round at the March 20 event. We will start at 10 a.m. He may do some food but not jambalaya in favor of some soups. Members offer vegetarian Cuban black bean and vegetable beef soup. Squirrels will bring something. People can pay that day and pay membership then as well. Jay will coordinate memberships. Mini golf won’t be scored but for fun pickup round. May consider one mini hole per round. May have 8 or 9 holes of mini golf for fun. Sponsorship Request: The Club’s been asked for sponsorship at the Three Play Open April 10 and 11th by Mike Souchocki. Registration is open. The three play open involves three per tee to get through two rounds of 18 each day. Play should be faster than average. We can get a logo on tee shirts or tee pads. Tee shirt logos cost $100. There are a number of options. Mike regularly comes to our tournaments. The event is connected to the Beaver State Fling through raffle of goods to fund the Fling. Greg proposes a hole sponsorship of $100 cash or $50 cash and $100 retail products. One member has signed up to date. The proposal passed with voice vote and one opposed. Capital City Tournament: (Mr. Patrick) He reported on the Salem Club’s the Capital City Disc Golf tournament April 10th. It’s been a way of clearing out the Cascades Gateway jackpot which is capped at $100 payout and is now $260. They are interested in club discs for scrip but considering cash payout instead unless we could help. Members offered to bring the discs. They might need $100-150 in discs. The goal is to give out $200 in cash and 150 in plastic. Dave will get them to Casey Lohrman. Adair Greenskeeper: (Mr. Kaser) He reported the course is getting trampled down with increased use. In addition, on hole 9 on right position near trail, there’s a small tree that’s been broken and laid over. New vandalism is being seen. There’s a pile of trash behind hole 10. A tagger named Priffles is a prime suspect. Everett will be stepping out as Greenskeep after this year. He’s concerned about what is going to happen at the Adair course. Waiting for players and groups has become commonplace. Woodchipping needs doing where there’s lots of mud. Parks just wants to manage the course rather than improve it. Water standing in 16’s pin positions. Gravel or closure during the winter might be an option It’s just getting beaten up he reported. Sport is growing to fast for the ground to keep up with it. Other members said by June such problems normally disappear and other courses are in much worse condition. We might need a turnpike type walking path along 10 with runners as with hole six and others. Last of rock and gravel been scooped up by parks. A course may be in the works at OSU. The club could support that and call the formation of a University of Oregon team recently. There has been an aborted attempt at OSU. Willamette Report: (President Sexton) Steve McGettigan, the volunteer coordinator from City Parks, recently sent e-mail talking about moving hole 7 away from the road which will require a major re-design. He said we may suggest if they put a ball golf mesh netting to block the road as cheaper solution. Ball golf nets are available are under $1000. Mr. Smith argues there is no way the locals will stand for a net in Willamette park. Birds could be threatened. Parks may just move it if we do nothing or may anyway. Discussion included moving holes on the other side of the tree line north of the course. We could educate people to throw more safely if they were educable. After a lively, animated discussion, several club members would start with replying “no.” If we don’t interact they might just do something. Just say “no” up front to avoid a slippery slope where parks starts wanting to change holes one at a time. One member suggested Parks look at Westmorland in Eugene which has a walking path in the course and different users coexist. There are much more dangerous courses in parks and they need to know that. Doubles Report: (Mr. Gibson) We have had some good crowds, including 17 and 24 recently. There have been several aces. He proposes donating a couple discs a month for CTP (closest to the post). People really appreciate it for a minimum number of players, such as 20. He wants to continue that. It was decided to offer a couple of discs for turnouts over 15. Litter problem, post signs, pack it out signs. Handicap Report: (Mr. Storrs) Handicap is doing good. In a month, the Winter round will be over and Spring will start. We can switch to weekdays such as Tuesdays and Thursdays. The switch will occur on March 14 along with daylight savings. Our next meeting will be at 7 p.m. in keeping with the beginning of Daylight Savings Disc Tsar: (Mr. Pittman) The club made over $100 from disc sales at Festivus. We have an inventory of about 440 discs. There are putters which weren’t brought to the meeting. The President’s Report: (Mr. Sexton) He’s worked on renewing the club’s insurance. He’s also discussed resolving the Parking issues at Adair by posting signs with “No parking on this side.” He’s proposed defining parking on the south side. Parks is thinking about it and may be supportive. He showed sample basket collars he’s designing for Adair as replacements for broken lockdowns. The Parks Director objected to the new, donated benches. He wanted them removed as unstable, dangerous and inconsistent with the course bench design. He took strongest issue with putting things on the course without asking. A redesign may be accepted later. Members noted that the Boy Scout benches were just as unstable if not more so. An OSU disc golfer, Josh Kirby approached the club interested in talking about staging a benefit for the Humane Society and dogs in the park. He was informed of complexities and event limits to Two tournaments. It might be able to be negotiated as a non profit, such as Linn Benton Food Share which is not considered a tournament. It’s a fund raising event. Other item: Mr. Martin said Calapooia Brewery will donate a tee shirt a month for CTP at Sunday doubles. Mr. Pittman reported they put all the baskets in yesterday at Milo McIver State Park. The meeting adjourned shortly before 7 p.m. to accommodate another group using the room.
