Willamette Disc Golf Club Monthly Meeting 4/6/09 Present: Dave Pittman, Everett Kaser, Jim Dubay, Casey Lohrman, Jay Sexton (Presiding), Bob Burton, Greg Johnson, Craig Banner, Mark Martin, Karl Pilotte, Larry Evans, Tuler Blais, Ross Glaser, Sam Gibson, Alan Turner, Rick Reichard. Treasurer’s Report (Greg) At this moment there is 1640 dollars (only) in checking but from Nate’s tournament there will be enough for 3300 dollars in liquidity, so we can restock our discs soon. WDGC Invitational Tournament (Greg). A lot of improvement work has been done this spring with addition of holes to replace the Starker holes which have become overgrown by the tree farm. The format will be single disc round, with second round after lunch with three discs allowed. There will be a mini tournament during lunch which won’t contribute to the main tournament competition. There will be two mini holes in each “adult” round that will count. This is a good tournament for children. The Wash July 25th-- (Jay) Eric sent a letter. He’d like contributions of food for the event. He plans to eliminate shirts and hats as player packs and divert the donations to the beneficiary of the tournament, Linn-Benton Foodshare. Adair (Everett) On hole 3, 16, and 10 there are now tree protectors. Everett has made one and Jay has made two of them. Jay has placed some tree. Parks is interested in preserving natural vegetation. Everett has put some protection around some clumps of ferns, etc that are repeatedly being thrown out of the fairway. We need to do some education about preserving the forested part of our course. The problem of dealing with the trash that gets dumped on the course was discussed. Jay referred to a conflict in Chico that circled around environmental despoliation and almost resulted in ejection of the course. Willamette (Jay and others) Tree planting has been undertaken by Parks to replace the trees that were accidentally mowed down. Adair Doubles (Mike Gibson) seems to be going well. Craig transferred 162 dollars to the treasurer. The doubles is having large attendance these days. Disc Sales (Dave) Two months report 1450 dollars spent in Feb. 419 discs left at end of Feb. At present we have 219, so Dave is working on an order. One thing he uses the discs for is for prizes for the doubles CTP as donations to the program. There will be no more Pro plastic after the current inventories are exhausted, so Dave plans to order several in popular models. We’ll be buying discs more frequently, Dave predicts, as we anticipate more sales. April Fool’s Tournament (Dave) About 152 discs were moved that day. This will help defer our insurance bill. Dion is sponsoring a C-tier event May 3rd, which will benefit the BSF this time. He plans others to benefit the Willamette Open. The motion to sanction Dion’s tournament was passed overwhelmingly by a show of hands. There was a motion to sponsor 1 hole at Whistler’s Doubles which also passed (unanimously). It will also be a matter of policy that at any event which we sponsor and supply tournament supplies with script and discs that we will do a 1 dollar surcharge to defer insurance payments. The exception will be tournaments like the Calapoia Classic which won’t be sponsored by our club, but for which we provide discs and script for prizes etc. President’s Report: Jay noted that we expect the sponsoring club to provide: 1 Early info for club members to register (It was felt however, that allowing early registration for club members might lead to a wave of protectionism). 2 Signing waivers, 3 Payment for all discs etc, the day of event. Jay will draw up a bylaws amendment which will deal with these sanctioning issues that we will expect TDs to address. Respectfully submitted, Bob Burton, secy.
