Willamette Disc Golf Club Monthly Meeting 1/5/09

Treasurer’s Report: (Greg Johnson) We closed out the year with about $2700.
There is a lot of flux of money right now because of Festivus.

Festivus. (Jan 24th) (Greg)  Discs ordered include Champion custon-stamped
Monarchs, Wraiths, Starfires, and Bosses, also towels with logos. Trophies
will come from a potter in Bend.  This will cost about 450 dollars which
will come from money raised for Festivus (entry fees mostly).  He is
needing commitments for food for the lunch.  There was discussion about
the layout of holes.  There will be some changes.  One of them will use
a string circle instead of a low wall for the “island hole” between 13 
and 14 of the permanent course.  Another will be a direct long hole from
15 to 16 permanent holes.

Handicap Tourney at Adair:   Mike Storrs announced Handicapped League will
resume at 2:00 PM each Sunday, beginning this Sunday.

Adair Doubles: Craig announced doubles had 22 people last Sunday, and the
institution is thriving.  

Adair (Everett) Everett reports that the course is wet, but is in reasonably
good shape.  Everett wants to work on the trail between 3 and 4 Saturday the
10th in preparation for Festivus, and during OLE which is scheduled there
for Saturday. 

Willamette  Stolen practice basket has been replaced by the City with a 
mach 5 (which was exchanged with the #12 disc). Some baskets have been
moved to alternate positions.  (Also see President’s report).

Disc Czar – Last Year, 1200 discs were sold by Dave.  He is getting
Champion monarchs, Bosses, Wraiths, and Starfires with Festivus design
for the tournament.  Dave has a few waterproof XL stockings left selling
to 1st  come 1st served, for 15 dollars.

President’s cup (Mark) was 2 months ago and was a big success.  Mark sees
it as a way in the future for raising money for FoodShare.

President’s Report: (Jay)  Bylaws hve been slightly modified.  The question
was entertained whether to approve it tonight or take a month for perusal.
It was decided to wait for next month for final approval.  

Jay has talked to the folks managing Marys River Park disc golf course.
Specifically, teepads and blind throws were cited as obvious candidates
for improvement.

It is possible to buy a PDGA memberships with a 5 dollar discount thru
the club.  Jay is taking money for this now.

At 10 O’Clock  Jan 11 Jay will conduct a walk-thru of hole no. 8 at Adair,
with whoever shows up,  to consider improvements.  Ideas will be brought
back to Club Meeting.

The City has concerns about liability insurance agreements and ground
rules for Club activities at Willamette.  Jay reported that the City
wants our club to carry insurance, and we are generally unwilling to
sign the proposed contract with the language as written by the City
pertaining to the carriage of insurance.  There is a question of whether
our club dues would have to increase and whether we should delay collecting
2009 dues until situation clarifies.  This was not felt wise or to be
necessary for this year.
