Willamette Disc Golf Club Monthly Meeting 12/1/08 Present: Dave Pittman, Everett Kaser, Jim Dubay, Kelley Christianson, John Ross, Jay Sexton (Presiding), Bob Burton, , Craig Banner, Mike Gibson, Casey Lohman. Treasurer’s Report: There are 2413 dollars on hand plus 95 to be added from Adair doubles (see below). Festivus. (Dave) The sign-up for this isn’t up yet but the tourney should be Jan 24th, a Saturday. Watch for the announcement as the tournament gets oversubscribed quickly. Adair (Everett) Everett reports on multiple improvements on the course that he has made. A trench draining the wetlands on 14 has been well received. He noted the decorative rockwork on #6. He doesn’t know who actually did that work. He talked to park super Kitzman about the walkway between 1 and 2. He has moved the moveable bridge from 14 fairway to 17 fairway. He is building a set of stairs from 3 to 4 tee pad over the blackberry hill. Discussion: We would like to encourage recycling glass and cans at Adair and wonder if the parks people would be open to this. Parks people have inquired whether we would be interested in gradually replacing the rubber tee pads with concrete ones. This was generally well-received. Willamette The cans at each tee for cigarette butts have been filled with bottles and cans It seems that they have defeated the purpose of controlling litter. The idea of providing a supply of garbage bags so that those of us so inclined can pick up litter as we play and carry it to a serviced trash can. Adair Doubles (Mike Gibson) seems to be going well. This month (Nov) has netted 95 dollars for the club. The ace pot remains at 220 dollars. Handicap Tourney at Adair: Not going on at present. Mike intends to restart next year. Marys River Park DG course. Jay inquired whether we’d be interested in helping improve this 9 hole course. John Ross, Bob Burton, and Dave Pittman (and others?) indicated willingness. Disc Sales (Dave) He’s had about 150 dollars in business this month. He will be ordering discs this month to have an inventory for Festivus. President’s Report: (Jay) It is possible to buy PDGA memberships with a 5 dollar discount as a club activity. By show of hands the club approved the club selling memberships. Jay is working on By-Laws for the club. He has a draft on the web to garner comments. The plan is to bring them back for final approval on January. The City has concerns about liability insurance agreements and ground rules for Club activities at Willamette. Jay is continuing attempts to get more specificity about what they expect and what they will provide. Examples of this are: when our insurance covers our officials injuries and liabilities, and when the City will cover. The City wants us to have both health insurance and liability coverage. Dave has researched what other clubs have done in relationships with city parks. Club unanimously approved Jay’s continuing negotiation and commitment of the club to an agreement with the City. Jay suggested that some further interest in course changes e.g. new tee box for hole 10 at Adair, others. Changes at 6, 7, 8. were discussed. The club decided on Sun the 14th at 10 am to walk hole 8 and consider changes in basket placement, possible tree removal, etc. General discussion of Waterloo Park. There has been a lot of improvement here, both because of work by disc golfers and the County Parks folks. Respectfully submitted, Bob Burton, secy.
