April 6 Meeting of Willamette Disc Golf Club Woodstock's Pizza, 7:00 PM Present: John Ross, David Pittman, Brad McDougall (new member!), Colin Sexton, Briana Anderson-Craig, Nate Sexton, Kelly Christianson, Jay Sexton (Presiding), Casey Lohrman, Mike Gibson, Craig Banner, Eric Smith, Laura Martin, Sophie Martin, Jack Martin, Mark Martin, Sharon Kaser, Everett Kaser, Karl Pilotte, Tewa Phimmasone, Chris Cusack , Greg Johnson, Bob Burton (recording). Adair Greens Keeper's Report Everett Kaser: -------------------------------------------- Everett Kaser and Jay have been in consultation with Park authorities. Hole 10 slanting tree is a question of danger if it were ever to right itself with children playing under roots (hypothetical situation that occurs to fearmongers). They were concerned about parking in the grass in the parking lot at hole 1 after receiving complaints from a local activist. They would also like us to align messages and "pretty up" the kiosk at the parking lot. Hole 6 needs to have culvert hardening, with larger stones to protect against erosion. They talked about increasing the number of holes but the ranger wasn't enthusiastic. He cited the need for multiple use and keeping disc golf in its current relationship to the other uses. The park employees are shorthanded and reluctant to endorse new ventures that they might have maintenance responsibilities for. There are some trees on the course that have sustained a bit of damage; Everett discussed various measures he will be experimenting with to protect them from disc trauma. Also ranger would like a path to hole 2 tee from hole 1 basket. Everett Kaser proposed stairs, they preferred serpentine path, but concern is that no one would use it. Ranger said the club should go ahead and put wood chips on the first 50-100 feet of the paths leading away from tees 16 and 17 (where mud is forming in the winter). Willamette Course. Jay: ----------------------- There is a large fraternity-based work party planned by Parks Dept. Our work party was able to apply bark chips provided by Parks to needy paths and tee pad areas, but there was need for more bark chips than were provided. Adair Doubles ------------- Craig Banner reported that this is going along well and is earning some funds for the club as well as making good friends for the club. Mulligan fund $147 (Club income), Ace Pot $437. Handicap League --------------- We are averaging 18 players a session two times a week, which also benefits the Willamette Open fund, to enhance the purse for player pay out. Willamette Open 10: ------------------- New Date: Sept 27 and 28: A new disc stamp has been designed with Sam Storrs on it. Disc Czar: ---------- Dave has a lot of new discs in. He has sold 49 discs this month. Some of them have been sold for script, but expectations are high for more sales for cash. Beginning inventory was 156 discs representing $1200 in club cost. We have added 225 discs for value to club of 2600 dollars of inventory (332 discs) tonight. Announcements of Tournaments There will be a Lava Launch III in August which will be a PDGA sanctioned non Oregon Series tournament: it will be part of the Steady Ed Series. The course will be expanded from the 27 holes played last year. ---------------------------- Casey proposed a club-members-only 1-day tourney, to be held 1 week after Calapooia at his home where he has 6-hole course. Mark Martin plans a President's Cup time and course to be determined. He congratulated club on its growth and energy. Briana announced that she is working on getting a woman's Wednesday bimonthly evening female fling at Willamette, 2nd and 4th Wednesdays, probably at 6 PM. First session will be last Wednesday in May. President's Report ------------------ Corvallis Parks Agreement has gotten off the desk of one Steve and has gone to the desk of another Steve. Parks has interest in tee signs like ours at Adair. We would like to use contributed design work (Kelley) for a credit toward our vender's permit. This would allow us to raise considerable funds for a third course etc? Need for a mesh fence on #7. There is more discussion going on about safety notices to be put up on the courses. There have been children seen suddenly appearing on Willamette hole number 1 from 2. The Women's Disc Golf clinic was a great success with 19 women present. There were 5 instructors among those and many new golfers with a wide range of ability levels. Despite varied skill levels everyone had a successful time and they are planning a repeat, as well as the Wednesdays mentioned above. There is a request to get discs at cost for low weight player packs for the Ladies' club meetings. **Proposal**: DX plastic discs sold at Clinics will be sold for $5. Premium discs $10 , total disc limit 2 per participant. Additional discs to be sold at the usual (low) club prices. This motion was seconded and passed without dissent. Jay reported on our proposal about "Adopt a Park" to the Parks People. This is in a state of limbo right now with the Parks Dept. Greg Johnson Invitational May 17: --------------------------------- Greg would like a notion of how many people will come for food planning mostly. There will be 18 holes as he envisions it. There will be mini golf competition. Work party after 3 PM on 16th. There will be a single disc round in AM and all discs round in PM. Dana Lawton has donated $100 to the club and the Clinic netted $40 for the club so there is additional revenue to that reported. Meeting was then adjourned by President.
